Collins takes on Bacchus Marsh role

New Bacchus Marsh head coach Sheree Collins is hoping to continue the momentum gained with the Cobras netball program the last couple of years.

The Cobras have been around the finals mix under former coach Michael Saker and have taken it up to some of the best teams in the Ballarat Netball League.

Collins, who was appointed last month, has seen a bit of the Cobras close up over the last couple of year’s.

She said it was exciting to take that next step to become their head coach.

She replaces Michael Saker, who stood down after three years in the role.

In that time they went from bottom to playing finals.

“They have been going really well and it’s a good time to get in there and help them climb up the ladder,” she said.

“They have continued to improve under Mick the last couple of year’s.

“I’ve been umpiring them the last couple of year’s. They have a good club culture.”

Collins isn’t a stranger to the league, having previously coached at Redan.

She coached their under-17 team, before coaching the A-grade team.

Her time came to an end early, when she did her ACL playing for them.

Collins was also involved with the BNL interleague team.

Collins is also president of Brown Hill in the Ballarat Netball Association.

She has coached both junior and seniors teams for Brown Hill. Collins said she would be able to juggle both roles.

“They are on at different times,” she said. “Their main season is on now and ends in November.”

Collins said she might possibly look within Brown Hill to add players to the Cobras.

She said they would look to base their team’s on the players that were already at the club.

The Cobras have made finals the last two years, but were knocked out in elimination finals.

“We will definitely work with what we have there,” she said.

“We’ll put some feelers out, as it’s always good to have some new blood.”

Bacchus Marsh will have trials in the coming weeks with pre-season to start on November 20.
