Wallan coach Chris Cameron will return as the Riddell District Netball League senior interleague coach next year.
Cameron coached the side this year after being named league coach of the year in 2018.
He had a successful introduction into the interleague program, with the RDNL claiming a one-goal victory against the Southern Netball League in the AFL Victoria WorkSafe Community Championships in May.
AFL Goldfields netball manager Kim Bailey said they were thrilled to have someone of Cameron’s calibre involved for a second straight year.
“We are very pleased to have such a person with the coaching credentials of Chris heading our interleague program again for 2020,” Bailey said.
“He brings a wealth of knowledge with him and we are looking forward to some terrific results next year.”
Cameron has been involved in the RDNL competition the past two years, during which he has re-established Wallan’s A-grade program.
The side this year finished third, having pushed the two grand finalists through the finals series.
Players who were named in the 2019 RDNL team of the year will automatically be invited to be part of next year’s interleague squad.
Ryan medallist Stefanie Symes, Macedon’s Katie Clarke, Chloe Wilson, and Caitlyn Alifraco, Diggers Rest’s Anica Scherer, Rupertswood’s Prue Stanley, Tee Salanoa, Clare Johnson and Ailish McCormack, and Wallan pair Gemma Grimmond and Chloe Meulenmeesters were all part of the team of the year.
Seven of those players were part of this year’s interleague team.
There will be trials for the remaining spots.
The team will compete in the Association Championships and also the Ariels tournament, where they claimed the open division title this year.
The league is still hoping to secure a standalone interleague opponent, after the AFL Victoria Community Championship were axed.
