Diggers Rest will have to find a way to bounce back, while Melton South’s finals run is over in the Riddell District Football League.
The Burras finals campaign got off to the worst possible start with a massive loss to Riddell in the qualifying final on Saturday.
The minor premiers entered the match on the back of its only two losses for the year and the tough run continued against the Bombers.
Riddell jumped out of the blocks early and led by 42 points at quarter time.
The game was over at half time with the margin out to 64 points.
Riddell continued the momentum heading in the second half to come away with a 19.12 (126)-6.7 (43) win.
Any injury to insult, the Burras ended the day with no bench after several injuries.
James Waters and William Rousch were named their best.
The Burras will now face Kyneton in a knockout semi final, after the Tigers upset Wallan in an elimination final on Sunday.
Melton South’s first finals campaign in years ended at the first hurdle as it lost to Macedon in an elimination final on Sunday.
The Cats jumped out to an early 20 point lead at Diggers Rest Recreation Reserve and were able to maintain that margin heading into the main break.
The Panthers were able to stick around in the third quarter and wouldn’t allow the Cats to run away with it.
The margin was 25 points after the Panthers kicked two goals to one in the third quarter.
It was again an arm wrestle in the final quarter with neither side able to break open the game.
Macedon got the first goal of the quarter through Jason Cooke to put all the pressure back on the Panthers.
Broden Colling and Jye Baters were the best for the Panthers.
Macedon will now face Riddell for a spot in the grand final in the other semi final.
