Burras “thrilled” with new recruits

Diggers Rest has signed three new players for next year’s Riddell District Football League season.

The 2022 season will see Mitch Jensen, Mitch Day and Lachie Ronaldson join the club.

Jensen arrives from Echuca United and previously played for Romsey in 2019 where he kicked 43 goals from his 9 games.

According to the Burras Facebook page, he is an “explosive, goal kicking mid-forward who loves a running bounce”.

Jensen has also played for Footscray in the VFL and is a Doutta Stars premiership player.

He is quite familiar with the Burras as he works with one of their sponsors and several of their players, as well as joining the team for training last year during lockdown.

The three recruits have played together previously in a premiership at Doutta Stars in Essendon District Football League and remain “mates” from their time at the club together.

Day arrives from the Stars and is a mid-size forward. The Burras post said however he can be versatile, playing higher up the ground.

The Burras said that he is “strong in the air and a classy goal kicker”.

Ronaldson joins the team from Glenroy and is a key forward who can play a hit up role or as a deep traditional key forward.

The Burras said he is “a great user of the ball and will present all day”.

“We can’t wait for all three to pull on the jumper in 2022,” said the club on the Facebook page. :”Welcome boys!”

Despite constant lockdowns and fewer games, the Burras landed second on the ladder for the 2021 season.

The Burras have also announced a number of re-signings.

Former premiership captains Stuart Clarke and Tom Gleeson, former AFL players Taylor Hine and Cale Morton, and former Bowen Medalist Jaidyn Caruna headline the re-signings.
