Melton Thoroughbreds’ winning streak has ended at the hands of the Sunbury Jets in Big V men’s division 1 basketball.

Having won their previous six matches, the Thoroughbreds entered the match favourites against a young Jets side that has been inconsistent at times this year.

The Jets, though, were on their game, eventually winning 75-66.

Nothing separated the sides in the first quarter as they went goal-for-goal, with the Jets in front by one point at the first break.

The Thoroughbreds found themselves chasing the Jets in the second and were down by as much as eight points.

A three-pointer from Melton’s Billy Feben reduced the margin to five at half-time.

Scores were level halfway through the third, before the Jets opened the margin back up to six points at the final break.

The Thoroughbreds got within two points late in the final quarter, but that was as close as they could get.

With Melton committing fouls late in a bid to stop the clock, the margin blew out to nine points.

Ivan Harris top-scored for the Thoroughbreds with 24 points, while also pulling down eight rebounds.

Cameron McCallum was the only other Thoroughbred player to score double figures, finishing with 11 points.

The loss means the Thoroughbreds drop a spot on the ladder and are in fifth ahead of a trip to Mildura on Saturday.
