Besnard celebrates game 100 in Melton Centrals win

A semi final win for the Melton Centrals under-18 girls capped off a brilliant day for Nicole Besnard on Sunday.

The talented footballer took to the field in her 100th game and helped the side win through to next week’s AFL Goldfields’ Riddell under-18 youth league girls grand final.

Besnard started playing football with Melton South in under-10s and played with the club under-14s in boys teams, until she was too old to continue playing with them.

She joined Melton Centrals girls program and hasn’t looked back.

At just 15, she is believed to be the youngest girl to have played at Centrals, to have reached the 100 game milestone.

Despite her young age, Besnard has a number of achievements behind her.

She has captained the Centrals under-15 girls team and claimed the side’s best and fairest award that year. She finished fifth in the league best and fairest award.

Besnard has represented AFL Goldfields and was named best on ground in one of the league’s under-18 representative matches earlier this year.

Besnard will be hoping to add an AFL Goldfields’ under-18 premiership to the achievements    next week. Centrals beat Gisborne in a semi final, 3.4 (22)-1.1 (7). Besnard was named in the best.

As well as being a talented footballer, Besnard she also represented her school in netball, basketball, tennis and cricket.
