St Anthonys hot form with the bat has continued in the Gisborne and District Cricket Association’s B-grade competition.
Coming off scores of 299 and 334, the Saints had been firing on all cylinders the past two rounds.
But facing Eynesbury, which is also undefeated after three rounds, presented a new challenge.
The the Saints made 297, being bowled out in the 69th over.
Saints skipper Cameron Clayton said there was a lot of belief in the side at the moment.
“We wanted to win the toss and bat with the warm weather,” he said.
“We just stuck to team rules and did the basic things.”
The Saints shared the runs around with three players making at least 40. Simon Blanks led the way making 93.
Clayton, who finished 34 not out, said they weren’t relying on one player.
“Nathan Dantonio [who is coming off two centuries] was out in the first over for one,” he said.
“It’s promising now we don’t have to rely on the same guys, with anyone who can stand up and make runs.”
Luke Castle took four wickets for the Eagles and his brother Hayden Castle took three.
With the Eagles batting well this season, Clayton knows they have a challenge ahead. Early wickets will be the key, with the Eagles top three batsmen averaging more than 40 each.
“Obviously with them undefeated and us being undefeated it’s a chance to see where both sides are at,” Clayton said.
“They haven’t had to chase this season, let alone chase 300.”
Bacchus Marsh’s batsmen had a day out in the McIntyre Cup competition against Lancefield.
The Bulls, who are undefeated, made a massive 8-345. James Lidgett, who had made starts in the first three rounds, turned it on making 112. Skipper Ben Robertson made 73, which included a 132-run partnership with Lidgett. Dennis O’Loughlin chipped in with 56.
Meanwhile, Diggers Rest Bulla’s game against Woodend will be a one-day game, with no play possible on Saturday.
Riddell is well on its way to victory against Rupertswood. The Bombers are 1-66 needing 95 for the win.
Romsey made 9-275 against Sunbury with skipper Ben Way making an unbeaten 175.
