Bacchus Marsh Bowling Club will have a new challenge this season – the club has two sides in the Central Highlands Bowls Division’s top division for the first time in its history.

The club’s second side will join division 1 after earning promotion from division 2. It defeated Diggers Rest in the division 2 grand final earlier this season.

Club president Glenn Arthur said while some bowlers had been a little apprehensive to step up to the top division, it was exciting for the club.

“We’ll have 32 bowlers this season playing in division 1,” he said.

“At least half the second team has stepped up to help the top team at some stage.

“A lot of the time when a club has two teams in the top division, the second team normally gets relegated and goes back down.

“Even if they do get relegated it will make them stronger bowlers having played against the top level.”

Arthur said the club had retained nearly all the bowlers from the past season and were looking to add a few more to the mix.

“We’re after bowlers who would like to play in division 1,” he said.

“There may be players at other clubs in lower grades or competitions and think that they could play division 1 who would like to make the move.”
