Melton Thoroughbreds made it two from two in the Basketball Victoria Country Basketball League north-west on Saturday. The Thoroughbreds jumped out of the blocks and were never headed in the 95-59 win against the Swan Hill Flyers. Koby Skenderis top scored with 23 points. The Thoroughbreds women’s side also had a good win beating the Flyers 66-52. Mackenzie Reddrop top scored with 24 points. The women’s side also remains undefeated.

Western United’s title defence got off to a rocky start in the A-League Men’s competition on Friday night, .In a rematch of last season’s grand final, it was Melbourne City that came away with the win this time, winning 2-1. City opened the scoring through an own goal, before Jamie MacLaren doubled the lead in the second half. United got a late consolation goal. The Western Rams have announced that Leigh Sporle will coach them in next year’s Riddell District Football League season. Sporle replaces Marty Weaver who coached the side the last three sides which were all heavily impacted by COVID-19. Sporle previously coached the side in 2013 before having to relocate for work commitments. He coached the Sunbury Kangaroos for two seasons in the Essendon District Football League the last two years.
Ballarat CA
Round two of the Ballarat Cricket Association was a casualty of the heavy rain last week. Having played in round one, heavy rain last week meant there was no play across all grades on Saturday due only three grounds suitable for play. Darley, which had lost in round one, was set to play Brown Hill. The Lions are set to face Wendouree this Saturday in round three.
