The Westside Strikers continue their winning run in the FV state league 4 west competition. On Saturday, the Strikers beat the Truganina Hornets, 3-2. The Strikers remain one point clear of the Keilor Wolves at the top of the table. Meanwhile, Spring Hills lost to Bell Park, 2-1. In state league 5, Melton Phoenix’s title hopes suffered a setback with a 3-0 loss to Balmoral. Despite the loss, the Phoenix remain three points clear of Balmoral.

Melton had the kicking boots on against arch rival Melton South in the Ballarat Football League. The Bloods led throughout the match and looked headed for victory with a 40 point lead at the last break. No one saw the last quarter coming, as they piled on 17 goals to come away with a 28.13 (181)-4.9 (33) win. Liam Carter kicked seven goals, while Ryan Carter and Braedan Kight kicked five goals each. Liam Carter was named best on ground. Bacchus Marsh and Darley suffered losses to Sebastopol and Redan respectively.

Darley suffered an upset loss to Redan in the Ballarat Netball League on Saturday. The Devils trailed at every break in the 47-39 loss. Keeley Boudrie scored 36 goals for the Devils in the absence of Rebecca Hicks in the goal circle. The result means the Devils slip to fourth, behind Redan. Meanwhile, Bacchus Marsh lost to Sebastopol, 57-44. Second placed Melton South had a bye.
Hockey
It was a tough weekend for Melton in the Hockey Victoria Premier League competition. In the men’s Vic League 3, Melton lost to RMIT 4-1. Paramjit Singh Dhillon was the goal scorer for Melton. Melton remains in third spot. The women’s Vic League 2 side lost to Gippsland Strikers, 4-2. Kaela Beechy and Amy Schwarze were the goal scorers. The Mustangs metro 1 north west women also lost, while the men’s pennant E and metro 2 north west men’s teams both had wins.
