Darley Cricket Club could have dubbed Saturday’s game as ‘bring your family to play day’ with two sets of families, including one of four, playing together.
Fletcher Kilmartin made his senior debut in the Lions’ fifth XI, alongside his mum Aileen, dad David and brother Whitiora against the BFB Reds in the Ballarat Cricket Association.
Fletcher made three runs in his first game, with David scoring 12 runs and Whitiora making six.
The Kilmartins, who also have another son and a daughter, joined the club last season.
It began when the mother and daughter duo came across to help establish the women’s side, with the rest of the family soon following.
Teammate and club secretary Jim Shea, who played with the family on Saturday, said it was a pretty entertaining day.
Father and son duo Shane and Archer also played together for the first time in the fifth XI.
Although the social team came away with a loss, Shea said losing by one wicket was encouraging.
“It was a pretty tough side previously, we’ve never gotten close to them in a match before – been playing against them for five or so years. And so to lose by only a wicket was…something we wouldn’t have expected but came away pretty happy with it.”
The fifths are set to play BFB Whites this Saturday at Mason’s Lane Reserve.
Meanwhile, Darley’s first XI beat Ballarat-Redan on Saturday.
Ballarat-Redan batted first making 124. Ben Longhurst was the best of the bowlers with three wickets.
The Lions made 4-125 with more than 17 overs. Dilan Chandima top scored with 39.
The Lions sit second on the ladder.
