There was only one goal kicked in the final quarter of the under-19 AFL Victoria Country Championships football match between the Riddell District Football Netball League and Nepean Football Netball League and it was enough to ensure victory for the Nepean side.
It was a close game all day with Nepean leading by 11 points at quarter time, the RDFNL by two points at half time and Nepean by three points at the final change.
Nepean kicked the only goal of the last quarter to extend the lead to a match-winning 11 points. The final score was 12.18 (90)-12.7(79).
Matt McGregor kicked three goals for the RDFNL, with Cameron McRorie and Seb Miletic kicking two goals each.
Mitch Trimboli, Roger Allan, Aaron Paterson, Matt Pannuccio, McRorie and Ed Morrissey were named in the best for the RDFNL.
The result was a big improvement on last year’s performance when the side lost by 97 points to Alberton.
In the under-17 netball, the RDFNL were unable to match it with a much taller opposition, losing 43-26.
Nepean was able to extend its lead in every quarter to run out easy winners.
The under-11 netball interleague side also played an exhibition match against St Therese’s school on the day.
