More than 60 professional golfers will be looking to go low at Eynesbury Golf Club this week.
The club is holding its pro-am tournament, with $11,000 in prizemoney on the line for the professionals and their amateur playing partners.
Eynesbury Golf Club general manager Brett Scothern is hoping a score in the mid-60s will be good enough to win.
“If the weather is good, hopefully someone will shoot about 66,” he said.
“We will probably get a dozen or so players under par.
“There are probably about 30 guys out of the 60 who are good enough to win it.
“In a one-round event, anyone can get hot for a day and win it.”
Among the main challengers will be Bacchus Marsh professional Josh Younger.
The 31-year-old will go into the tournament in hot form after a brilliant Australian summer, the highlight of which was finishing equal second with Adam Scott behind winner Nick Cullen at the Australia Masters.
This result helped lift his world ranking from 1063 at the end of 2013 to 445 at the end of 2014.
Scothern is also expecting a couple of pro-am veterans to be around the mark when the whips are cracking.
“Euan Walters has won on the Australian tour,” he said.
“He won the Jacobs Creek Classic probably about 10 years ago and is still playing pro-ams. He also played on the US tour for a year.
“Scott Laycock is another good Victorian- based pro who has always been high up in the rankings and plays pro-ams.”
This will be the first time since 2011 that Eynesbury has held a pro-am.
The 18-hole course has a par of 72.
“It’s something everyone at the club is really looking forward to,” Scothern said. “We present the course at its absolute best for this time of year.
“It just gives everyone a bit of a kick.
“If anyone wants to come down and watch they are more than welcome.”
The Eynesbury Golf Club pro-am will be held on Monday, February 26.
