WDCA: Melton Centrals must beat Springs to make finals

While bad weather washed out the Williamstown District Cricket Association’s turf competitions, A-grade matting was played on Saturday.

It was a tough day for the Melton Centrals, who were unable to defend their first-innings total against the Williams Landing batsmen.

Melton was bowled out for 174 on day one but looked to be on top in the contest with Williams Landing struggling at 8-137. The lower-order batsmen rallied with Nikhil Mahto and Imran Razvi combining in a match-winning 51-run stand.

With one round left in the WDCA season, the Centrals must beat Caroline Springs this week to make the finals.

Sydenham-Hillside enjoyed a strong win against Burnside Springs in the North West Metropolitan Cricket Association on Saturday.

Sydenham had dominated day one, taking wickets at regular intervals to remove Burnside Springs for 135 in the 62nd over. In reply, Sydenham was 2-50 from 18 overs when stumps was called. As day two began on Saturday, the batting side wasted little time reeling in the remaining 86 runs required for victory.

Sydenham smashed its way to the target for the loss of six wickets.

Elsewhere in NWMCA, Kealba Green Gully enjoyed a big win against Clarkefield Brumbies. After bowling out Clarkefield for 134 on day one, Kealba had no trouble reaching the target, bringing up the win for the loss of just three wickets.
