VSDCA T20: Real mixed bag for Melton Lions

Melton is through to Sunday’s finals of the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association T20 competition.

The Lions finished on top of the west group and will play Plenty Valley, winners of the north group, in a semi-final at Balywn.

The winner of that match will play either Malvern or Oakleigh in the final later that day.

It wasn’t so great for Melton in the main, north-west, two-day competition where it will need wickets, and quickly, to have any hope of beating Yarraville when their match continues.

Batting first, the top-of-the-ladder Lions were demolished for 100 in only 44 overs.

Yarraville is fast becoming a giant-killer after knocking off Roxburgh Park Broadmeadows last week. Yarraville at stumps was 4-75.

In the Williamstown and District Cricket Association, both Melton Centrals and Melton South Primary School will have big chases on day two of their matches.

Centrals is chasing Gellibrand’s 7-255cc. Michael Keating was the thorn for Centrals, making 114.

Centrals coach Adam Hulett was best of the bowlers with 2-32, while Matthew Murphy grabbed 2-55.

Melton South will be chasing Grand United’s 9-257 from its 80 overs.

In the Western Suburbs Churches and Community Cricket Association, ladder leaders Eynsebury Eagles have already secured first innings points against Rockbank.

The decision to send Rockbank in was a good one, with the Eagles skittling them for 54.

At stumps, the Eagles were 3-114.
