A century to Thomas Rogers has helped Melton Lions regain top spot in the Victorian-Sub District Cricket Association’s north-west group.
The Lions were in control of the weekend’s match against Preston from the start, taking three quick wickets before the middle order staged a mini- comeback.
But Preston was bowled out for 156 with more than five overs remaining in the innings.
Brad Jones was best of the bowlers, taking three wickets.
The Lions did it with ease on the back of Rogers’ first century in the senior team. He and Nathan Geisler took the team past 156, then attention turned to getting Rogers to his maiden ton, after which stumps was called.
Rogers finished 100 not out, with Geisler unbeaten on 35.
This win, and Roxburgh Park Broadmeadows’ loss, meant the Lions jumped the Falcons into top spot.
