GDCA T20: Super over, big scores kick off series | Gallery

A match that went to a super over helped kicked off the opening round of the Gisborne and District Cricket Association’s T20 competition last Tuesday night 

Teams from all clubs are part of the competition, which pits the McIntyre Cup clubs against each other in early rounds, while clubs from B-grade through to E-grade to battle in the initial stages before they all come together for finals.

The match between Diggers Rest Bulla and St Anthonys provided the highlight of the round, with scores tied on 94 a piece after both teams had batted.

St Anthonys got the win courtesy of the super over.

Sunbury recorded its first victory since round one of the McIntyre Cup, defeating cross town rival Sunbury United.

Jason McGann, who has resumed the captain’s role for Sunbury, was the star making 89 as his team hit 6-163.

United fell three rounds short of victory, finishing at 8-161.

Ryan Billinghurst top scored for United with 45 before being run out.

Wallan’s senior side got its first victory of the year in any format, easily accounting for Romsey.

Batting first Wallan made 6-138, before bowling Romsey out for 70. Dale Keenan took three wickets for Wallan. 

Gisborne defeated Bacchus Marsh on the final ball of the match. Chasing 105, Gisborne finished its innings at 4-108.

Eamon McKenna top scored for Gisborne with 29, while Luke Dickson took 3-18 for the winning team.

Ashfield defeated Lancefield, despite failing to bat out its overs. Led by captain Jason King, Ashfield made 119 and were bowled out with 15 balls to spare.

King, opening the batting, top scored with 42.

Macedon got its second win over Rupertswood within a week after chasing down 5-129 in the last over.

Nathan Shoesmith, coming off a century in the two-day clash between the sides, top scored for Rupertswood with 41.

In reply, Macedon hit the winning runs with four balls remaining.

East Sunbury defeated Hesket in the other game.

Results for Woodend and Riddell aren’t yet available, while Tylden had the bye.

The next round of the competition is on November 25.
