A match that went to a super over helped kicked off the opening round of the Gisborne and District Cricket Association’s T20 competition last Tuesday night

Teams from all clubs are part of the competition, which pits the McIntyre Cup clubs against each other in early rounds, while clubs from B-grade through to E-grade to battle in the initial stages before they all come together for finals.

The match between Diggers Rest Bulla and St Anthonys provided the highlight of the round, with scores tied on 94 a piece after both teams had batted.

St Anthonys got the win courtesy of the super over.

Sunbury recorded its first victory since round one of the McIntyre Cup, defeating cross town rival Sunbury United.

Jason McGann, who has resumed the captain’s role for Sunbury, was the star making 89 as his team hit 6-163.

United fell three rounds short of victory, finishing at 8-161.

Ryan Billinghurst top scored for United with 45 before being run out.

Wallan’s senior side got its first victory of the year in any format, easily accounting for Romsey.

Gisborne defeated Bacchus Marsh on the final ball of the match. Chasing 105, Gisborne finished its innings at 4-108.
