Bacchus Marsh is on the board in the Gisborne District Cricket Association after winning its round two clash against Romsey on Saturday.
But the Bulls had to work for the points and got home by only eight runs at Maddingley Park.
After being sent in to bat, Bacchus Marsh made the ideal start with 8-186 from its 40 overs.
Scott Wakefield was the standout with 47, while Ben Robertson contributed 42.
In reply, Romsey fought hard but lost wickets at key times as Bulls bowlers James Bailey and Tom McColl combined for five wickets to guide their side to the win.
Bacchus Marsh is now 1-1 for the season and will take on Riddell this week.
Melton started the Victorian Sub District season with a five-wicket loss to Ivanhoe.
After winning the toss at McPherson Park, an even Lions outfit combined for 7-171 from its 45 overs.
Michael Allen made 28 in his first match back since missing last season with a broken leg, but Nathan Geisler did most of the damage with 50.
Although Melton’s score looked adequate, there was no stopping the Ivanhoe batting line-up.
The Lions kept things relatively tight with the ball but couldn’t get the wickets required to apply serious pressure and Ivanhoe went on to reach the target in the 44th over, with David Wilesmith making an unbeaten 80.
Steve Buhagiar, with 3-40, was the best of the Melton bowlers.
The Lions will look to secure their first win of the season this week when they take on Altona.
The A’s will be a tough proposition, though, after beating Preston in round one.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Melton Centrals secured its first win of the new season, smashing Gellibrand by six wickets in the Williamstown District Cricket Association.
Gellibrand won the toss and batted at Digman Reserve, but the coin toss was just about the club’s only win of the day.
Set 165, Melton belted the Gellibrand bowlers to all parts of the field and brought up the win in the 30th over.
Andrew Cristofaro made 76 not out as Melton reach 4-168.
