Ballarat FL: Darley out of finals race after losing to Redan

Darley is out of the Ballarat Football League finals series after a 59-point loss to Redan in the semi-final on Sunday.

The Devils were under pressure from the opening minutes as the Lions made their intentions clear.

Redan booted five goals to one in the first quarter to take a 24-point lead into the first break.

That quarter set the trend for the rest of the afternoon as Darley struggled to eat into the margin.

The Devils’ eight goals across the next three terms were answered by 15 from Redan as the Lions secured the 20.11 (131) to 9.18 (72) win.

Despite the tough opposition, Shane Page stood tall for Darley and was named the Devils’ best player.

He kicked one goal and was well supported by Jake Ancrum and Anthony Chiu who also worked hard.

Up forward, Jake Edwards and Jarrod Edwards kicked two goals each.

They were no match for Redan’s Grant Bell who kicked four goals to be the leading forward on the ground.

While Darley’s season is over, Redan progress to this week’s preliminary final and take on Ballarat.

The winner of that match will take on North Ballarat City in the grand final.
