Riddell District Football League’s under-18 interleague side was on the back foot from the first minute of its WorkSafe country championship match against Alberton at Romsey Park.
Under fire from its more experienced rivals, the home side was unable to score a major in the opening quarter, and it trailed by 10 goals at the main break.

Alberton continued to dominate play and the scoreboard in the third and fourth terms, finishing the game the way it started by keeping the RDFL goalless in the final term to achieve a 19.16 (130) to 4.9 (33) result.
Sunbury Kangaroos’ Roger Allan was awarded his side’s “best player” medal by the umpires.
Rupertswood’s Nathan Caldone and Austin Cicero also played well, while Macedon’s Sebastian Miletic, Rupertswood’s Brody Pink and Dylan Podolczak, and Woodend- Hesket’s Michael Crozier were the RDFL’s goalscorers.
Elsewhere, Ballarat Football League’s under-18s were outrun by the Goulburn Valley Football League in the final term, losing by 33 points.
Just two points separated the teams at half-time, but Goulburn Valley kicked eight goals to three in the second half, winning 12.14 (86) to 7.11 (53). Sunbury’s Mitchell Conn kicked one goal for the BFL and was among his side’s best players.
Other locals in the team included Sunbury’s Dylan Tarczon; Melton South’s Lachlan Watkins, Daniel Vasjuta and Daniel Leggett; Darley’s Nicholas Thacker, Jake Ancrum, Darcy Gallop and Abraham Cameron; and Bacchus Marsh’s Kane White.
Maryborough Castlemaine District Football League also lost its under-18 clash, succumbing to Geelong and District Football League 12.5 (77) to 9.6 (60).
Trentham’s James Gray was named among the best players for Maryborough Castlemaine.
