BFNL: Bacchus Marsh struggle against Lake Wendouree

Bacchus Marsh was outclassed by strong Lake Wendouree outfits in their senior netball matches on Saturday.

The Cobras lost all but one of their Ballarat league games for the day, with just the B-grade side beating the Lakers, 30-29.

Coach Frank Pawlowicz said it was a tough day for the Cobras.

“The A-grade side was beaten quite easily,” he said of the 67-14 result.

“We’re in a rebuilding phase. Ellie Burgess and Jacqui McHenry are under-18 players and our captain is only 20.

“In the A-grade reserve, it was disappointing to lose to the Lakers by 18 goals (61-43).

“They didn’t let us play the way we wanted to. The girls said themselves they didn’t play as a team.”

In B-grade, the Cobras started the game on top and managed to squeeze out the win.

“We had a very good first half and led by 14 goals but ended up winning by just one. We switched off,’’ Pawlowicz said.

“In C-grade, we were totally outclassed and they led by 10 goals at quarter-time. They only won by 19, so I was happy with the last three quarters.”

The Cobras’ under-19 side also lost, 15-35. Pawlowicz said the teams were still learning to play together after an interrupted start to the season. “We’ve only played a couple of games, as we had the bye in the first round.

“We want to give young players the experience of playing in our senior teams.”

This week, the Cobras play Sebastopol.

“They should all be very close games. The A-grade will be a good run for our side and we are expecting to win in the A-grade reserve and B-grade,’’ Pawlowicz said.
