VSDCA: Melton seconds in easy win over Noble Park

A century from Melton second XI captain Andrew Cristofaro has guided his side to a comprehensive win against Noble Park and into the box seat for finals action.

Cristofaro hit 101 from 92 balls to guide Melton past the home side’s 115 from last week.

He received great support from Nick Gale (50) as the visitors passed the Noble Park total early in the afternoon before powering on to eventually be dismissed for 221.

Noble Park batted again late in the day, registering 2-78 off 30 overs.

Melton needs only to win its final game this Saturday against Croydon to ensure a finals berth.

Third X1

Melton’s thirds endured a 20-run loss to Brunswick on Saturday, putting a dent in the side’s finals aspirations.

Melton fell just short of the visitors’ 189, with Brunswick bowler Chris Owner picking up six scalps.

The loss means Melton sits outside the top six ahead of this weekends final match against Preston.

Melton will need a percentage-boosting win over the top side to scrape into the finals.
