VSDCA: Dominant Wolfe raids the Melton den

Melton ran into a David Wolfe master class on Saturday, with the returning Werribee batsman demolishing the Melton attack with ease as the Tigers avenged last year’s grand final loss.

Defending a meagre 123 from last week, and with Werribee 1-57 at the start of the day, Melton had little chance but was made to look pedestrian by Wolfe’s whirlwind innings.

Wolfe hit the Melton bowlers all around MacPherson Park on his way to a match-winning 110, with the day’s play lasting only 20 overs.

Wolfe, 47 not out overnight, made the most of his first game back in the first XI for a year following a knee injury.

Werribee lost its second wicket early in the day when Kyle Andrews (2) gifted Brad Jones a well-deserved wicket, but by that stage Wolfe had powered his way past 50 and was showing no signs of slowing down.

On a hot afternoon, Melton rotated frequently, often giving a bowler only a couple of overs to get into the game.

But Wolfe took a liking to them all.

After his partnership with Werribee skipper Shaun Dean (11) took the visitors past the victory target, they batted on to get Wolfe to his hundred.

He got there soon after and was eventually dismissed for 110, with Werribee finishing the day 3/140.

The loss means reigning premier Melton has one win for the year and remains anchored to the bottom of the table.

Werribee remains undefeated and two games clear on top of the sub-district table.
