RDFL special: Junior grand finals wrap

With senior football run and won for 2013, the Weekly is casting an eye back to the RDFL junior grand finals to pay tribute to premier teams in this year’s underage competitions.

Under-18.5

Riddell Bombers claimed the under-18.5 flag with their thrilling 8.7 (55) to 7.12 (54) victory against Rupertswood.

Under-16 A

Sunbury Lions overcame a half-time deficit to beat Rupertswood, 11.10 (76) to 8.7 (55).

Sunbury trailed Rupo by five points at half time before five goals to two in the third quarter turned the tables.

Dylan Tarczon was Sunbury’s best with three goals, joined by William Fellowes and Jayden Eales. Dylan Podolczak and Jayden Baillie were Rupertswood’s best.

Under-16 B

Romsey led start to finish but had to hold on in the last quarter to denyπ Woodend a comeback win.

Woodend closed from 20 points down to within a goal but still fell short, 9.8 (62) to 7.14 (56).

Jake O’Brien, Scott Swann and three-goal Frank Miceli were Romsey’s best.

Liam Barton and Jack Lindner were best for Woodend.

Under-16 C

An all-Sunbury affair ended with victory for Sunbury Lions White, beating Sunbury Lions Blue, 8.6 (54) to 4.6 (30).

Lions White led by just a point at three-quarter time but kicked away with four unanswered goals in the final term.

Tyson James, Bryleigh Doherty and Nicholas Dore were Lions White’s best.

James Lamb booted four goals for Sunbury Lions Blue, while Brendan Neagle and Zachary Smedley were better players.

Under-14 A

Inaccurate kicking for goal would not deny Rupertswood the premiership as it beat Kilmore 4.11 (35) to 3.2 (20).

Dylan Landt was Rupertswood’s best along with Anthony Ricupero and three-goal Jordan Ferraro. Liam Middleton and Ben Cooney were Kilmore’s best.

Under-14 B

Romsey held Wandong at arm’s length to win the grand final, 8.7 (55) to 5.2 (32).

Sean Day kicked four goals for the Redbacks, while David Smales, Jack Coburn and Connor Lever were better players.

Kyle Britton and Rohan Greenhalgh were Wandong’s best.

Under-14 C

Gisborne Rookies overcame a scoreless first quarter to storm to a comeback win against Kilmore, 4.11 (35) to 3.3 (21).

Still down by 12 points at the last change, Gisborne kicked 3.8 to no score in the final term.

Kade Sadler kicked three goals for Gisborne, while Jack Manago and
Jacob Oliaro were better Bulldogs. Joshua White and Rhys Carman were best for Kilmore.

Under-14 D

Woodened dominated the decider against Gisborne Rookies, 10.11 (71) to 1.1 (7).

Jacob Hunt, Roy Mahon, Finnbar Galbally and Cooper Little were better Woodend players. Michael Barcellona was Gisborne’s best.

Under-12 A

Gisborne Rookies made the most of limited scoring opportunities to beat Rupertswood 3.4 (22) to 1.1 (7).

Riley Vernon kicked two goals for Gisborne while Sebastien Bells-Bartels and Baxter Slater were better players. Jakeb Coles was Rupertswood’s best.

Under-12 B

Romsey kicked away from Wandong in the final quarter to win 5.4 (34) to 3.7 (25).

Joshua Alford kicked two goals for Romsey, while Thomas Maslen and William DiPietro were other better players.

Cooper Gillard was Wandong’s best.

Under-12 C

Melton South dominated the second half with four goals to one to beat Melton 5.8 (38) to 2.7 (19).

Milan Savic kicked two goals for the Panthers.

Zac Nedelkovski, Jai Elmore and
Adrian Pace were other better Melton South players.

Under-12 D

Rupertswood Gold showed no mercy to clubmate Rupertswood Blue, winning 11.6 (72) to 1.3 (9).

Bailey Bishop was best for Rupo Gold with five goals.

Cooper O’Shannassy and Jordan Flanigan were other better players.

Under-10 A

Melton South kicked away with seven second-half goals to register a 9.4 (58) to 4.3 (27) win against Rupertswood.

Jack Benjamin Darling was Melton South’s best along with two-goal Jayden Coutts, while Paul Curtis kicked four goals.

Rupertswood’s best were Jamie Daniels and Jordan Magro.

Under-10 B

Lancefield held on in a goalless last quarter to beat Romsey 3.3 (21) to 2.2 (14).

Giovanni Doria kicked all three of Lancefield’s goals, while Darcy Giles, Matthew Weber and Max Cooper were its better players. Liam Muir and Kyle Brennan were best for Romsey.

Under-10 C

Kilmore edged Sunbury Kangaroos in a close final quarter to win 4.7 (31) to 3.10 (28).

Ryan Philippe, William O’Dwyer-Richards and two-goal Dayne Middleton were Kilmore’s best, while Brody Watts and Blake Tirchett were Sunbury Roos’ best.
