TAC Cup: Western Jets out of finals race

The Western Jets’ season ended on Sunday at the hands of
neighbours the Calder Cannons in a 35-point defeat at Princes Park.

Calder kicked four of the first five goals and kept Western at arm’s
length thereafter in the 16.11 (107) to 10.12 (72) result.

Western was
within 18 points at three-quarter time but Calder’s six goals to three
ended any hopes of a comeback.

James Sicily booted three goals as
Western’s only multiple goalkicker, while Melton’s Lachlan Hickey and
Darley duo Brett Bewley and Billy Myers were named among the best.

Calder advances to a preliminary final against Dandenong Stingrays for a
spot in the grand final. On Sunday night, a crazy Morrish Medal count
saw four medals awarded after an unprecedented quadruple tie.

Bendigo
Pioneers’ Jacob Chisari, Eastern Ranges’ Ben Cavarra, Geelong Falcons’
George Cameron and Gippsland Power’s Josh Scott tied on 16 votes.

Calder’s preliminary final is at Princes Park, Carlton, from 11.15am on
Saturday, while the preliminary final between Geelong and Eastern Ranges
will be at the same venue from 2pm.
