GOOD luck to any team standing in Melton’s way when its players are on song.
The Bloods’ trust and confidence in each other was obvious on Saturday as it dominated Bacchus Marsh 50-16 to stay within a game of top spot in Ballarat Netball League A-grade.
With Brooke Thompson patrolling the back-court and Melissa McCauley shooting 41 goals in the rain it was another show of strength from a Melton outfit looking to go one better than last year’s runner-up effort.
Still sitting third (9-2, 44 points) Melton trails ladder leaders North Ballarat City and East Point (both 11-1) with five games to go.
With Melton playing coach Krista Woodroffe a constant source of instruction and encouragement in the mid-court, players like wing defence Jess Bartlett and centre Amy Conroy keep the game ticking over.
McCauley leads the attack and goaler Lauren Byrnes has worked her way into the mix. But Woodroffe believes the team’s recent strength lies at the other end of the court.
“Mel has had an awesome season and so has Brooke [Thompson] in defence, but the shining person is Jaclyn [Fogarty]. She’s played awesome this season and our defence has kept us in a lot of games.”
Around the courts, Sunbury beat Melton South 58-17, North Ballarat City beat Sebastopol 68-32, Lake Wendouree beat Ballarat 42-28 and East Point beat Redan 40-30.
In Riddell Netball League A-grade, Melton Centrals’ unbeaten season rolled on with a 65-19 win against Rockbank. Renee Hulls shot 41 goals while Bree Dean was the Blues’ best.
Around the courts, Riddell beat Diggers Rest 66-23, Macedon beat Woodend Hesket 63-16, Sunbury beat Rupertswood 58-42 and Lancefield beat Broadford 50-36.
