A HANGOVER from Fevolamania hit Bacchus Marsh on Saturday with the Cobras struggling to kick goals in their 59-point loss to Ballarat.

Brendan Fevola lifted the team to within a snff of victory in a one-match visit last week, but on Saturday the Marsh had no multiple goal-kickers in its 5.9 (39) to 14.14 (98) defeat at Maddingley Park.

The visiting Swans took early control of the game with five goals to two in the first quarter, holding the advantage to half-time after both sides failed to kick a major in the second term.

But any hope of Bacchus Marsh coming back in a low-scoring slog were dashed after the break, with Ballarat kicking six goals to three in the third quarter. The margin crept out when the Cobras managed just 0.3 to Ballarat’s 3.2 in the final term.

The defeat leaves Bacchus Marsh (2-5) a game out of the top six from one extra match played.

Tyson Shea was the Cobras’ best, while Alec Del Papa and Coby Millar were their other better players.

At MacPherson Park, Redan showed little mercy to the Bloods in its 26.15 (171) to 5.13 (43) hiding.

Seven goals to one in the opening quarter was enough for Redan to put its stamp on the game, threatening to turn the match into a major blow out as the gap extended to 71 at the long break.

Melton had just the one goal to three-quarter-time and trailed by 110 before rallying in the final term with four goals to Redan’s six.  John Prudek ended with three goals while other better Bloods were Matthew Notman and Lachlan Hickey.

At Clarke Oval, Sunbury was challenged but proved too good for East Point, winning 17.17 (119) to 16.10 (106). Sunbury had seven multiple goalkickers, while Dan Jordan booted six for East Point. An injury to key defender Brett Chambers soured the win for the Lions.

In the weekend’s other match, Lake Wendouree defeated Sebastopol, 10.9 (69) to 9.9 (63).

Round eight sees Darley return from the bye weekend to host Melton at Darley Park, while Ballarat plays Redan and Sebastopol hosts North Ballarat City. Melton South will play on Sunday at CE Brown Reserve against Lake Wendouree.
