RDNL: Hope springs eternal for Romsey

HOPE Hamilton starred yet again for Romsey as the Redbacks scored a decisive 62-22 win over Woodend-Hesket.

The Romsey skipper did as she pleased up forward, scoring 41 goals, and was ably supported by goal attack Alyssa Cole with 21 points.

Wing attack Kristy Blackmore was also terrific.

With 18 goals, Maddy Staresina was best for Woodend-Hesket, which is yet to win a game this season.

Melton Centrals kept their unbeaten streak going, winning their sixth straight match 63-45 over Lancefield. Rebecca Morabito scored 35 and Bree Dean 28 for the Centrals, while Alex Darby’s 26 was best for Lancefield.

Sunbury, too, remained undefeated with a thumping 67-16 win over Broadford. Kila Elavo scored 34 goals and was backed up by Shannon Grieve (21) and Narelle Montgomery (12).

The Kangaroos have been the best defensive team this season and at half-time on Saturday had kept Broadford to just seven goals.

Riddell set up its 63-24 win over Rockbank with a dominant second quarter. After leading by just two at quarter-time, Riddell scored 19 goals while keeping Rockbank to three.

There was a dramatic, low-scoring draw at Wallan as the Magpies and Diggers Rest ended the game locked on 26 points apiece.

In a game of fluctuating fortunes where the lead changed several times — Wallan led 17-12 at half-time — the points were ultimately shared. Denise Goodwin was the leading scorer with 16 goals.

This weekend’s football and netball fixtures: Wallan v Rockbank, Broadford v Rupertswood, Melton Centrals v Sunbury, Riddell v Lancefield, Romsey v Kilmore, Macedon v Diggers Rest, Woodend-Hesket bye.
