MELTON Centrals have continued their perfect start to the Riddell District Football League, winning their third consecutive game by 38 points against Woodend-Hesket on Saturday.
Although the win was not as comfortable as might appear, Centrals still sit atop the ladder on 12 points.
After wasting several opportunities in the first quarter — Melton had 10 scoring shots to two but led by only 18 points — Woodend hit back in the second term with three goals to trail by 10 going into half-time.
But the Blues largely controlled the match from there, restricting the Hawks to three goals in the second half as they booted seven of their own.
Adam Fenton had his quietest day of the season but still kicked four goals, taking his tally to 17 in three games.
Lancefield bounced back from its seven-goal loss to a Barry Hall-led Broadford in round one with a 10-point win over Rockbank.
The win was all the more impressive considering the Tigers trailed by 21 points at three-quarter-time. It was a see-sawing contest for most of the afternoon, with Lancefield up by three goals at quarter-time only to fall behind in the second and third quarters.
But five goals to three behinds in the final term gave Lancefield the victory it needed.
Romsey led all day in a comfortable 72-win over Wallan.
The Redbacks led by 20 at the main break but broke the game open with seven goals in the third quarter before rubbing more salt in the wound with a strong final term.
Macedon inflicted Rupertswood’s second straight RDFL loss, the Cats winning by 13 points in a tight, low-scoring affair at Salesian College.
Alistair Meldrum was arguably the difference between the two sides with four goals for Macedon.
