A young Melton netballer is heading for Darwin in September after landing a spot on the state secondary schools squad.

Jaeda, 12, has been selected for the School Sports Victoria’s under-12s netball team that will play in the School Sports Australia Championships from September 15-21.

She started playing netball last year, initially with the Melton Bloods.

Earlier this year, she joined Westside Saints in Keilor.

Her mum, Vicky Amato, said Jaeda’s game had improved a lot in the past 12 months, with the youngster switching from playing goal shooter to centre and wing defence.

Ms Amato said Jaeda switched to netball after years of tennis lessons.

“When she started playing inter-school sports she played netball and her interest just grew from there,” she said. “She likes playing alongside her friends.”
