A new sport program designed specifically for women to get active and make connections is coming to Melton.

Melton Phoenix Football Club is bringing the Go Soccer Mums program to Melton, a partnership initiative between Football Victoria and VicHealth.

The program is for women over 16 years of age to engage in a healthy lifestyle, learn new skills and make social networks within their community.

Melton Phoenix FC women’s ambassador Alexandra El-Khishen said the program would be an inclusive environment, with no previous experience required for participants.

“You don’t have to have any soccer skills, if you just want to come down and have some fun, we’re open,” she said.

Ms El-Khishen said the club wanted to give back to the community and provide mothers with a way to invest in their own health instead of putting themselves last.

“But it’s not just for mums, it’s for all women from all walks of life and it’s a judgement-free environment,” she said.

Ms El-Khishen said the family-oriented sport club wanted to make everyone feel welcome.

“We have created this opportunity to give the community a chance to engage in sport without the pressure of competition.”

The program will run over 8 weeks each Saturday from July 16, at MacPherson park in Harkness.
