Hundreds of Taylors Hill youngsters braved cold and wet weather last Friday to walk to school. More than 400 Taylors Hill Primary School pupils took part in the national Walk to School Day. School physical education teacher Leonie Gasper said the aim was to give children a lifelong love of physical activity. “There are always your active students coming along, but through events like this … it encourages those less active students to also get involved,” she said. “Days like these are very important.” The national event, spearheaded by the Pedestrian Council of Australia, fosters a reduction in dependency on cars, helping children develop road-crossing skills and the health benefits of walking.
