VU jobs and skills centre coming to Melton

Victoria Polytechnic will open a new job and skills centre in Melton later this year.

Victoria University’s TAFE division has already opened job and skills centres in Footscray and Sunshine as part of a state government program for prospective students and employers to obtain free advice on training, job opportunities and links to other services.

TAFE division vice-president Grant Deher has welcomed the centre initiative.

“They are a starting point for prospective students looking for training, workers seeking to re-skill or the unemployed seeking to retrain,” he said.

“Employers can also use the centres to upskill their workforce or assist with job vacancies.”

Students, workers or job seekers can use the centres to access skill assessments, information about in-demand skills, career advice and counselling.

They can also receive referrals to a range of support services that focus on careers and employment, education and training, welfare and financial guidance.

Details about the location or opening date for the Melton centre are yet to be determined.

The Footscray Skills and Job Centre is at 138 Nicholson Street.

The Sunshine centre is at 460 Ballarat Road and is dedicated to helping former automotive workers find new lines of work.
