Melton council is starting work to reduce traffic congestion on Hume Drive and make it safer for all road users.

The project will increase the section of Hume Drive between Gourlay Road and Calder Park Drive from two lanes to four and see the installation of a new road median.

When completed, the work will help to reduce congestion, particularly during peak times, and make this section of Hume Drive safer for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.

Preliminary works have commenced to prepare for the start of construction work at the site in January 2024. Construction is expected to be completed in early 2025.

Council encourages residents to allow more time for their journeys and use alternative routes if possible.

Melton mayor Kathy Majdlik said council is investing in roads to make it easier and safer for people in our community to get to where they need to go.

“When this work is completed, the duplication of Hume Drive between Gourlay Road and Calder Park Drive will make travelling by car, bike or foot safer and easier,” she said.

“Council will continue to keep everyone updated on our progress and give the community notice about any disruptions so they can plan ahead.”
