When Nyssa Sanguansri was three years old, she saw a television cartoon of Bugs Bunny playing the violin.
That inspired her to ask her parents for violin lessons – for which she had to wait another two years.
“When we went to the music shop, they didn’t have a small enough violin, so I had to wait until I was five to begin,” Ms Sanguansri said.
Now aged 21, Ms Sanguansri, a Tarneit resident, is studying at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and has formed a classical musical group, The Invictus Quartet, with three other students.
Next month, the quartet will fly to Townsville to join the Winterschool program that is part of the Australian Festival of Chamber Music. The educational program will provide coaching and mentoring to emerging ensembles for the duration of the festival, which starts on July 28.
Ms Sanguansri said she and the other Invictus Quartet members were thrilled about their involvement.
“It was really good to see our hard work pay off,” she said.
Ms Sanguansri said the quartet would take part in masterclasses with international musicians and perform at concerts.
She hopes to become a solo and orchestral violinist.
