Upgrade on the cards for Rogers Reserve

Moorabool council will begin the process of looking into upgrading Rogers Reserve in Darley after a notice of motion was moved at a meeting on February 2.

Councillor Rod Ward moved the motion to request an upgrade report be prepared as the first step in the process to improve the area.

“Living in that area of Darley, I see the popularity of Rogers Reserve most weekends. It’s full of picnickers,” he said.

“There is no barbecue space, there’s aging playground equipment…and there’s no shelter.”

As part of the report, Cr Ward requested a half wicket cricket pitch capable of being used by neighbourhood children and picnic goers for recreational use.

Installation of a half basketball court was also listed which would be similar to courts that have been installed in other open space reserves in Moorabool.

Cr Ward also said an upgrade to the “aging” playground would benefit the community as it has for other playgrounds that have seen upgrades in recent years.

Additionally, a barbecue area, including additional shade was requested to provide more options for picnic goers.

A final addition of public toilets would see the reserve well serviced for the community.

The motion was moved unanimously and a report will be presented at a later council meeting.
