Two notorious Melton roads to be upgraded

Two notorious Melton roads will be remodelled thanks to federal ‘black spot’ funding.

Safety upgrades along Boundary and Sinclairs roads will be carried out after Melton council secured $2.165 million of road safety funding.

There have been 13 crashes on these roads in the past five years, four of them serious.

About $1.5 million will be used to extend culverts and install guardrails, driveable end wall culverts and reflective guide posts on Boundary Road, from Mt Atkinson Road to the Dukelows Road intersection at Mt Cottrell.

And $670,000 has been allocated to install guard fences and driveable end walls on Sinclairs Road, from Taylors to Neale roads, at Rockbank.

There have been four crashes – one serious – on this section of Sinclairs Road, and nine crashes – three serious – on Boundary Road, from the Mt Atkinson to Dukelows roads intersection.

Melton mayor Sophie Ramsey thanked the federal government for the “significant” funding.

“These works will go a long way in making these locations safer for our community,” Cr Ramsey said.

Detailed design is under way, and tenders for construction will be advertised later this year. Works are due to start in March and be finished by May 2016.
