A meeting held by the Stop AusNet Towers (SAT) Melton group at Melton community hall was packed Wednesday night, with 200 concerned residents in attendance.
The meeting was held as a way to help the community be aware of a planned overhead transmission line route that AusNet has been contracted to complete.
Melton councillors, Melton MP Steve McGhie and Western Victoria MP Bev McArthur were also in attendance.
SAT Melton’s chair, Barb Ford, said the Moorabool and Central Highlands Power Alliance spoke about their campaign to “send the project back to the drawing board and look at alternatives that have less impact to the community”.
Moorabool and Central Highlands Power Alliance chair Emma Muir said: “The Melton community are upset and rightly so about this dangerous project.
“We all appreciate the change to renewables but bulldozing our communities is not an option.
“We encourage all of the Melton community to take a stand and write, call and let the state government know this is not a project we can support.”
The groups will be organising another meeting for the new year.
