Victoria Police conducted a transit operation between Melton and Bacchus Marsh railway stations last week, aiming to deter crime and boost safety.
About 50 police and protective service officers saturated the railway stations and nearby bus hubs in a highly visible operation titled Operation Skyline from Tuesday, July 15 to Wednesday, July 17.
They also boarded trains, aiming to engage with commuters and ensure safety.
Police spoke with more than 150 people during the operation, and according to Victoria Police, the vast majority were positive interactions.
During the operation, a total of thee people were arrested.
A 38-year-old Melton West man who had two outstanding warrants for failing to appear at court was also arrested as part of the operation, along with a 32-year-old Bacchus Marsh man who had six outstanding warrants for failing to appear at court.
The third was a 63-year-old Western Australian man who failed to identify himself and resisted arrest.
On top of these arrests, police also located two weapons during the operation.
Police allegedly found a knife possessed by a 17-year-old girl who was issued with a penalty notice for possessing a controlled weapon.
A 19-year-old woman will be charged on summons with possessing a controlled weapon after police also allegedly located a knife in her possession.
Transit West Acting Senior Sergeant Nathan Vipond said public feedback from the increased presence of police and PSOs along the train line was extremely positive.
“Several of our members had people coming up to them saying how great it was to see extra officers on patrol,” Acting Senior Sergeant Vipond said.
“The increased presence was especially welcome given it was school holidays when more young people are out and about,” he said.
“This operation sends a clear message that anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated on our public transport system.”
Authorised officers from V/Line also assisted with the operation to ensure ticketing compliance.

PSOs conduct daily patrols of Melton railway stations from 6pm until the last train each night.
