Tragedies for Melton roads

Two people have been killed on Melton roads in the past week.

A Melton South woman died in hospital last Monday following a collision in Ravenhall earlier this month.

Police say the 31-year-old woman stopped her car on the left lane of the Western Freeway, near the Deer Park off-ramps, and was hit by another car travelling down the freeway about 5.30am on Saturday, August 4.

The woman was taken to hospital, where she later died. The driver of the other car, a 28-year-old Brookfield man, sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital for observation.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating.

Meanwhile, police have charged a 32-year-old Melton man following a fatal collision involving a motorcyclist in Melton West last Tuesday.

A motorcycle was travelling south along Bulmans Road about 6.45am when it turned onto High Street, veered onto the wrong side of the road and collided with a car.

The male motorcyclist, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene. The driver of the car was not injured and stopped to help.

Police made an appeal for two other people – a driver of a black car and a second motorcyclist – they believed could assist them with their inquiries.

On Friday, police charged a 32-year-old, who they allege was riding in company with the deceased rider, with dangerous driving causing death, reckless conduct endangering life, theft of motor vehicle and other traffic offences.
