Hundreds of excited Bacchus Marsh youngsters have enjoyed meeting and playing tennis with 22-time Grand Slam champion Todd Woodbridge.

Woodbridge visited Bacchus Marsh Primary School last Friday and handed out 130 tennis racquets as part of the ANZ and Tennis Australia school partnership program.

“The racquet initiative is a fantastic way to introduce and encourage more kids to play tennis and find the future champions of our sport,” Woodbridge said.

“The school partnership program gives primary school students the opportunity to play tennis as part of their curriculum and to keep active and fit.”

School sports teacher Yvonne Muller said the pupils initially didn’t know who Woodbridge was.

“[The pupils] asked a number of great questions about his training and had done a little research about him prior to his visit,” Ms Muller said. “Prep pupils were excited to receive their racquets, and hopefully there will be a considerable amount of practice on the weekend.”
