The art of success

The arts talent is shining brightly at Melton Secondary College.

Year 12 students Aidan Watts and Harrison Gaulke were finalists in last month’s WestWorld Film Festival in Melton.

Gypsi Tyrell, in year 11, was recently selected to complete a year of training in the Melbourne Theatre Company ambassador program and year 9 student Aaron Hibbert was one of only 25 students across the state to receive a Betty Amsden Youth Scholarship for drama.

Teacher Rebecca Koroneos said the students were doing great work.

“Our students are incredibly talented, passionate and driven young people,” she said. “Our art programs truly embed our school values as well as teaching key technical skills to support our students.”

There is such demand for arts subjects at the college that new dance and 3D visual arts courses will be introduced next year.

“We have many students participating in local dance classes and other dance programs with organisations around Melbourne that are eager to continue this education at school,” Ms Koroneos said.

“Our students have great drive to pursue this specialised education within their study programs at Melton Secondary College.”
