At least one woman is killed every week in Australia by her current or former partner.

To mark White Ribbon Day, on November 25, Melton residents are being urged to “stand up, speak out and act to prevent men’s violence against women”.

As part of the movement, Melton council and Djerriwarrh Health Services will run a ‘coffee cup’ campaign to remind people that violence against women is never acceptable.

This week, takeaway coffee cups at participating local cafes and restaurants will display the hashtag #MeltonSaysNo.

“One in three women have experienced physical or sexual violence from someone known to them,” Melton mayor Kathy Majdlik said.

“Building greater equity and respect between men and women helps our community to reduce incidences of violence in our city.”

Community events, including a free coffee van, will be set up at the Corner@McKenzie pop-up park on Tuesday, November 24, from 10am, at the Caroline Springs library on Tuesday, November 24, at noon, and on Saturday, November 28, at 10am.
