Storm recovery in the Moorabool Shire is continuing through further funding support from the state government, to help clean up debris left behind by the storms one year ago.

Government organisation Bushfire Recovery Victoria have provided $650,000 in funding to be shared between the Moorabool, Macedon Ranges, and Hepburn shire councils in order to continue community clean up.

The grant is part of a $2 million community clean up support fund, which is designed to support local councils and not-for-profit community groups to undertake clean up works on private properties.

The funding will be used for the three councils to partner with Disaster Relief Australia, an organisation that specialises in recovery from large scale disasters through volunteers.

The support will enable community groups to manage volunteer and group efforts, undertake clean up projects and build up local capacity, as well as go towards purchasing equipment and partaking in training.

Moorabool Shire chief executive Derek Madden said the three central highlands councils were working on a plan.

“[We] are working through the process and plan with volunteer agencies, and further information will be provided soon regarding the volunteer clean-up program. The program will assist in clean-up of debris on private property from the June 2021 storm.”
