Step it up for women

Women’s health and safety will be the focus of the Walk With Her event in Melton.

The annual community walk, at Navan Park on March 3, is organised by Djerriwarrh Health Services’ Women Making it Happen group and aims to show support for a safe, respectful community.

Djerriwarrh Health Services chief executive Belinda Scott said the event was about promoting the right to respect and ensure the safety of all members of the community – especially women and children.

“All women, of all ages, should have the right to feel safe in their own community,” Ms Scott said.

“Our health promotion team has prioritised the prevention of violence against women as one of its Integrated Health Promotion project areas.

“Djerriwarrh Health Services is passionate about the Walk with Her event, and I encourage everyone to show their support and participate on the day.”

The free Walk With Her event is one of several local initiatives in the lead-up to International Women’s Day on March 6.

Participants in the walk can show their interest online: bit.ly/2Shb3E7 or on the day from 10am.
