Poorly designed advertising in shops in Melton’s town centre could be bound for the scrap heap as the council looks at new signage guidelines.
Council’s draft advertising signage design guidelines are out for public feedback until Friday, August 4.
The guidelines will apply to all planning permit applications for signs across the municipality.
Mayor Sophie Ramsey said advertising has a significant impact on local streetscapes and buildings helping to identify, communicate and market businesses.
“Well-placed signs in the right locations can add colour and interest to an area,” Cr Ramsey said.
“But too many signs, or poorly designed signs, can reduce their effectiveness and detract from the look of our city.”
The advertising signage design guidelines will help council manage advertising signage in the built environment and balance the expectations of business with those of the broader community.
Residents can complete the online survey at www.melton.vic.gov.au/advertisingsignage before 5pm on August 4.
