Shed blokes think big

Bacchus Marsh Men’s Shed is to get new digs aimed at helping more men build friendships, skills and community connections.

The group, based in a workshop at The Laurels adult education centre, has been given a state government grant of almost $25,000 towards a bigger shed.

Bacchus Marsh Men’s Shed president Alec McQuie said the grant was vital to the expansion of the group.

“We’ve got a shed at the moment, but it’s small,” Mr McQuie said.

“We’ve got about 20 members – and if they all turn up, it’s standing room only.

“The grant means we can renovate the stables that are out the back of The Laurels and turn them into a workshop and that will enable us to have a bigger membership. Our aim is to get more members in and give them somewhere nice to go.”

Western Victoria MP Jaala Pulford said the men’s shed program improved the health and wellbeing of participants.

“I’m delighted the government is investing in a new men’s shed for the Bacchus Marsh community,” Ms Pulford said.

“Men from Bacchus Marsh and district will be able to get together, work on valuable projects and forge strong ties with others in their community.”
