Free workshops for Melton crafters will be on offer as part of a new creative textile project.
The Home Sewn: Makers of Melton program hosts local and visiting artists who will hold workshops at Melton libraries and CS Gallery.
About five community-run craft and textile groups meet in Melton and a range of talented textile artists are from the area.
Community members who knit, weave, sew or stitch are encouraged to come along to a sew ‘n’ tell’ session to show off their latest piece, meet other artists and crafters, and find out more information about how they can be involved in the program which starts in June.
Renowned string installation artist Chaco Kato will guide the community to create weaving work at Melton libraries for one of the program’s first workshops.
Melton mayor Bob Turner said the program offers opportunities to get involved in high-quality creative experiences.
“This is such an exciting initiative and I can’t wait to see the fantastic craftsmanship and art which is created,” Cr Turner said.
“We are thrilled by the Victorian government’s $100,000 contribution, which has made this project possible.”
