Safety starts with a splash at Melton Waves

Andy loves splashing in the water.

His swim instructors at Melton Waves Leisure Centre are teaching the four-year-old about entering the water safely and what to do if he finds himself in trouble.

He’ll soon progress to stroke and kicking techniques.

Aquatic education co-ordinator Sheryl Bianchi says water familiarisation is one of the top five preventive measures to curb drowning rates.

“Recent research reveals only 51 per cent of parents take their children to swimming lessons,” Ms Bianchi said.

During Learn to Swim Week (September 24-October 2), Melton Waves will offer free swimming lessons to children under five. Call 9747 4333 or visit learntoswimweek.com.au
