Reward offered for Bunninyong cold case

Police have announced a $1 million reward to solve a 1999 cold case of a Buninyong woman who was strangled to death.

Bushwalkers found the body of Belinda Williams, 36, on the Mt Buninyong access road on July 6 that year.

Ms Williams was last seen alive at her home on June 25. She farewelled two visitors about 9.30pm and tried to phone her estranged partner about half an hour later.

Police believe she was killed in her home while her six-year-old daughter slept, and her body was later dumped.

The cold case is one of eight Victoria Police hope to solve with the help of a $1 million reward for each case. “To lose someone you love in violent circumstances would be incomprehensible to anyone,”
Commander Doug Fryer said.

“The added factor of not knowing who was responsible and what happened adds to the trauma. Someone out there will have the information we need.

“Put yourself in the position of these families and imagine the grief you would feel. Do the right thing and help us to bring [someone] to justice.”

The reward for information leading to a conviction will be paid at the discretion of the Chief Commissioner.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report to crimestoppersvic.com.au
